In our previous post, we looked at The Birkman Method of assessment and the advantages it provides for individual, team, and leadership development. By measuring four key areas: usual behavior, stress behavior, needs, and interests, Birkman provides a deep understanding of what makes someone motivated, engaged, and productive.
Here at Nally Leadership, we use Birkman assessments in a few ways:
- Team development sessions help team members understand how their styles and needs differ so they can work together more productively, even when stressed. Having this deeper insight can be extremely helpful for teams at all stages and levels of performance:
- New teams can get up to speed faster
- Established teams can reach higher levels of understanding and productivity
- Struggling teams can stop wondering “what can we do?” and gain concrete tools to achieve a turnaround
- Executive alignment sessions and retreats give leaders a truer picture of their own strengths, challenges, and needs, and insight into how their perceptions of themselves may differ from how others perceive them. Leaders also learn how to work with others with differing needs and styles and how to navigate and make best use of the unique attributes of their team members.
In addition, Birkman helps leadership teams better understand each leader’s personal leadership style and how they can leverage those to be more effective together. It also identifies and guides opportunities for skill-building or executive coaching to help leaders reach their full potential.
- One-on-one coaching sessions jumpstart and inform our three types of highly individualized coaching: executive coaching, transition coaching for veterans and professionals, and career coaching for professionals and students. In each of these, Birkman provides a baseline for people to understand where they are starting as well as offering actionable and personalized recommendations for development. For example, the assessment results provide specific strategies for improving communication, managing stress, adjusting leadership styles, and enhancing team collaboration based on the individual’s unique profile.
Both Mike Nally, our founder and CEO, and Jen Walls, our program director, are Birkman certified. Between them they have led hundreds of hours of Birkman workshops and conversations. They use their knowledge and experience to guide individuals at all levels to reach their full potential and help teams do better work by working better together.
So, how well do you know yourself and your team? Maybe not as well as you think! Whether used for personal or team growth, leadership development, or executive alignment, the Birkman Method helps create stronger, self-aware individuals, better aligned and effective teams, and a more cohesive, high-performing workforce overall.
How would you or your team benefit from deeper insight? Let’s work together to explore the possibilities.
